Keep your SQL Server 2012 secure and supported

Team working with a secure and supported SQL Server 2012 environment

After a 10-year run, this past July 12th, 2022, the support for SQL Server 2012 came to an end. If you are still using this program, there are four options for estate migration and modernization that will help your organization stay secure and supported.

1. Migrate to Azure Virtual Machines

This option will allow you to run securely with up to three years of free Extended Security Updates, as well as continued access to product support through your existing support contract.

2. Use Azure SQL Managed Instance

With this tool you can modernize your SQL Server in the cloud. This, by combining the broadest SQL Server engine compatibility with all the benefits a fully managed and always updated database service provides.

3. Upgrade to SQL Server 2019

With this newer version of SQL Server, your organization will benefit from security, the ability to break down data silos, added business continuity scenarios, as well as deployment flexibility.

4. Sign up for Extended Security Updates (for on-premises SQL Server)

This is done via Azure Arc and just like moving to Azure, it gives you continuous product support through your existing support contract.

Plan ahead for the Windows Server 2012/R2 end of support

Just like planning to protect your SQL Server 2012, your organization should have in mind to do the same for Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2. The end of support for these products will be on October 10th, 2023.
